Detecting And Deleting The Kak Worm Virus
The Kak worm virus variant WScript.KakWorm.dr, is a virus that spreads via e-mail using Outlook Express. It is one of the most prevalent viruses "in the wild". To spread, it requires Windows 95/98 with Outlook Express 5.0. It's destructive payload occurs on the first of every month, when the time is later than 5pm. It then puts an alert box on the screen with the message "Kagou-Anti-Kro$oft says not today !". When the user closes this alert box, the system restarts.
The virus spreads by attaching itself to each e-mail send by the user, this is done using signatures. To check if you have the virus, start Outlook Express, and Select "Tools", then select "Options...". This is shown below.

Now select "Signatures" on the Options dialog, if a Signature is shown with a file named "kak.htm" such as below, then the computer is infected with the virus.

If the virus is present in your computer, you can delete it by downloading and runnning the freeware program below. The program is totally free and can be used for personal or professional use.
